Six Characters in Search of an Author

When Six Characters was premiered in Rome in 1921 there was a riot in the theatre.  Audience and critics fought on stage and the 54 year old Pirandello was obliged to attempt an escape with his daughter through a side door.  That was a lifetime ago.  Now, by common consent, that night in Rome has come to be seen as a milestone in the history of theatre.  What was the fuss about?  Well, this is no ordinary ghost story, and we shall be telling it in its full period glory - footlights and all!
