Quatermaine's Terms
First performed in 1981, Quartermaine's Terms has been acclaimed 'a masterly play' and a 'literary masterpiece'. It is an often humours, but ultimately moving account of several years in the lives of seven teachers. At the centre of the group is St. John Quartermaine, agreeable and pleasant but hopeless at his job. He is always available to listen to the personal problems of his colleagues, each of whom harbours a private tragedy. In the end though it is Quartermaine who suffers the greatest tragedy of all.
