Elopement / A Music Hall
Elopement, by the eminent 19th century dramatist Henry Arthur Jones, is the genuine article - not the modern hiss-and-boo pastiche that nowadays passes for Victorian Melodrama. If Phil Raikes is meant to be the villain of the piece, he is a remarkably moral and almost likeable rogue. Furthermore, with two acts the play is perhaps too long to sustain the usual constant barrage of audience participation. However, we trust that you will not allow such details to detract from your enjoyment and reaction to our production.
The play is followed by A Music Hall, a pot pourri of music hall acts in the timeless style beloved by the British.
