Forget Neighbours! This is the first play in the history of the Australian theatre to win for itself an international reputation and esteem.
1953, Barney and Roo are seasonal cane-cutters who for the past sixteen years have spent their summer lay-offs with two barmaids in a suburb of Melbourne. Each year Roo has brought a kewpie doll to symbolize his relationship with Oliver.
In this seventeenth year, the doll heralds unwelcome change.
