Breadcrumbs is a powerful, haunting, bitter-sweet and richly textured play, offering superb opportunities for two female actors to explore the nature of relationships and how dementia, a terrible, debilitating disease can change the way in which we view our past, present and future.

The intimate atmosphere of the Coward Studio will allow audiences to be drawn into the compelling tale of how a successful, reclusive writer diagnosed with dementia, finds herself increasingly reliant upon a companion cum nurse to help complete her autobiography before it is too late.

As the relationship between the two women develops and changes, each must delve into their past, unearthing a tragic event which shatters their notions of language, loneliness and friendship.

As Backstage magazine observed, 'though most plays depend on words, words are immutably the crux of Jennifer Haley’s entrancing play. The telling of stories and memories, lies and truths, relies on our words. And like the breadcrumbs dropped in a fairy tale to find a way back to the familiar, words are dropped along the life path of the protagonist-author. Those breadcrumbs, however, are being pecked at and removed from her memory by Alzheimer’s disease.'

The play offers great opportunities for two actors to immerse themselves in a powerful piece of theatre:

Alida  aged 50-60

A reclusive, somewhat prickly, writer, hugely successful but recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

Beth   aged 30-40

A warm-hearted, but slightly chaotic drifter, looking for a home and a friend.

The most important part of this play will be the 'chemistry' between the actors, and their ability to forge a multi-textured relationship that will draw the audience into their world, so the playing ages given above are merely a guide.

I very much hope that you are intrigued by the idea of the play, and will wish to come along to both the reading and the auditions.

A great crew is being put together for this production, and we look forward very much to putting the two final pieces of the jigsaw together from TTC’s renowned acting pool.

I look forward to seeing you at the reading on Sunday, 19th February, with auditions a week later on Sunday 26th February, both starting at 6 pm at Hampton Hill Theatre.

If you want to discuss any aspect of this production with me, please do not hesitate to contact me.
